30 The NEC Classic Motor Show Sale - Cars Registration: D750 HYP Chassis No.: WF0CXXGAECGA91636 Estimate: £28,000 - £32,000 Lot 622 1987 Ford Capri 2.8 Injection Special This very impressive example is a UK-supplied, right-hand drive 2.8 Injection Special that was first registered as D750 HYP on 15th May 1987 to Ford main dealers Zenith Motors in London, making it one of the very last 2.8 Injection Specials to be registered. It’s finished in the very rare colour of Crystal Blue, only available in the last few months of production. The Capri was enjoyed by its original owner for a few years prior to being put into long-term storage where it was discovered by its next owner, who promptly purchased it on 26th May 2009. He was well known within the Capri community and used the car to travel to classic car events in the UK and around Europe. The second owner was also rather fastidious about maintaining the car, as evidenced by a large A4 box file of invoices for parts and maintenance. In addition, there is a fully stamped Ford service book up to 66,000 miles (all carried out at Ford main dealers). Sadly, the second owner passed away in 2017 and D750 HYP was offered for sale by his widow shortly afterwards. The third and current owner acquired the car on 29th March 2017 with an indicated mileage of 71,433. He had been looking for a 2.8 Injection Special to add to his collection for a while and knew exactly what he wanted. His criteria was low ownership, rust free, factory original features all intact, unmolested, never welded, original Ford factory wings and in the right colour. Happily, D750 HYP fitted the bill. Since his purchase, he has used the car on a very selective basis including visiting the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Ford Capri at Ford HQ at Warley and again at Ford’s Dunton offices (both of these events were arranged by Ford’s UK press office) and a couple of other classic Ford events at the Gaydon Heritage Centre. The odometer currently reads 72,921 warranted miles (at the time of cataloguing) meaning that this immaculate Capri has covered just 1,488 miles in our vendor’s five years of ownership. The Special appears to be pleasingly original displaying a number of features that are hard to replicate and during the current ownership the Capri has benefitted from, new tyres and a fresh MOT. This remarkable car is accompanied by its owners handbook with the correct Ford leaflets and paraphernalia, its original purchase invoice and the all-important service booklet which is stamped up to 66,000 miles by Ford main dealers. Clearly this is very special with all its factory features intact and is superbly finished in a rare and attractive hue.
