64 The Shuttleworth Summer Motorcycle Sale 2024 Motorcycles • Edward Turner-designed scooter built between 1959 and 1964 and available as a 250cc four-stroke or a 175cc two-stroke • An attempt at competing against the growing influx of popular Italian-built scooters • The 250cc four-stroke was a well engineered bike and capable of 70mph • This well restored example is presented in good overall condition • Part of a Collection for last few years so may require some recommissioning before road use • Finished in the correct colour of Polychromatic Green • Correct numbers and complete with an old RF60 ‘buff’ logbook and some older paperwork • UK-registered from new and with current V5C A well restored BSA Sunbeam 250cc scooter. Estimate: £3,000 - £4,000 Registration: 173 GAL Frame No: 13785 Engine No: W9735 Specialist: Mark Bryan Telephone No: 07958 107974 Lot 512 1960 BSA Sunbeam Scooter 250cc • After WWII, Douglas was in financial difficulty and reduced its output to the 350cc flat-twin engine models with the engine mounted across the frame • The last new motorcycle produced by the company, the 1955 Dragonfly, was built around an improved version of the existing engine • Despite its riding comfort being described as ‘equal to a car’s’, only 1,457 Dragonfly motorcycles were sold before the company was taken over and production ended in 1957 • 348cc flat-twin, four-stroke OHV generating 17bhp. 4-speed box with chain final drive • This late 1956 example has been restored to its current condition • Fitted with a Triumph front wheel with a better brake but original included • Complete with some old tax discs • Recently running but may require some recommissioning before road use • UK-registered on a V5C Well restored 1956 350cc Douglas Dragonfly.
