We love them and their enthusiastic owners, and occasionally we get a chance to offer something rather special from Ford’s motorsport-based back catalogue. Introduced in 1992, the Escort RS Cosworth was an homologation special and its sole role was to incorporate parts that Ford planned to use in their ‘Group A’ rally cars to ensure success in the World Rally Championship. Ford’s Special Vehicle Engineering (SVE) division managed to squeeze the workings of the Sierra Cosworth into the marketing-friendly Escort bodyshell and, hey presto, we had the Escort Cosworth. The enormous rear wing, front splitter and widened body panels all served a purpose, too being designed to assist the car at the high speeds it was expected to reach in rallying. The first 2,500 cars, the original homologation specials, were fitted with a Garrett T35 turbocharger and a two-stage intercooler generating 224bhp, but the big turbo meant big lag and then big boost for a startlingly exciting power delivery, however after May 1994, Ford did tone this down a bit by fitting a smaller Garrett T25 Turbo with revised engine management, generating 10bhp less, but the car was altogether more driveable. First registered on 18th October 1994, the UK-supplied right-hand drive Escort RS Cosworth on offer here is one of those small turbo cars. Finished in the desirable Mallard Green with a cloth interior, it’s covered just 21,888 miles from new and has been enjoyed by four previous keepers. K11 CSY has resided in a prominent Ford collection in the past few years, joining an eclectic mix of other Performance Fords and is accompanied by a good history file. The ‘Cossie’ Cherished Registration Number will stay with the car which will be presented to auction with a new MOT. Fresh to market and offered at a competitive estimate when you consider the low- mileage. We encourage and welcome all interested parties to come see the car for themselves at our NEC sale. Just 21,888 miles and attractively finished in Mallard Green. More Details Lot 181 Bid On Lot 181
