275 + buyers premium of 15% plus VAT (18% incl VAT) Lot 555 c.1936 Vincent HRD ‘Cadwell Special’ Series A Comet 499cc • The Philip Irving-designed HRD 500cc Comet utilised a single-cylinder OHV engine and was introduced in the mid-1930s • The Series A Comet was capable of 90mph which, in 1936, was quite remarkable • Post-WWII factory works rider, George Brown, built a 500cc Comet race bike from spare parts from the Stevenage factory using a Series A Comet frame and a Series B Comet engine top-end • Famously raced to numerous wins at Cadwell Park and other British circuits • This homage has been built from scratch using the bottom end of a ‘Series A’ engine and a ‘Series C’ top end •Most of the work has been completed either by Conways or Maughans and features a TT racing carburettor and TT clutch •Built for racing/parades with larger TT stainless fuel and oil tanks •May require some recommissioning and running in •UK-registered on a V5C and complete with VOC dating certificate ‘Cadwell Special’ race bike tribute.
