275 + buyers premium of 15% plus VAT (18% incl VAT) Lot 555 c.1936 Vincent HRD ‘Cadwell Special’ Series A Comet 499cc • The Philip Irving-designed HRD 500cc Comet utilised a single-cylinder OHV engine and was introduced in the mid-1930s • The Series A Comet was capable of 90mph which, in 1936, was quite remarkable • Post-WWII factory works rider, George Brown, built a 500cc Comet race bike from spare parts from the Stevenage factory using a Series A Comet frame and a Series B Comet engine top-end • Famously raced to numerous wins at Cadwell Park and other British circuits • This homage has been built from scratch using the bottom end of a ‘Series A’ engine and a ‘Series C’ top end •Most of the work has been completed either by Conways or Maughans and features a TT racing carburettor and TT clutch •Built for racing/parades with larger TT stainless fuel and oil tanks •May require some recommissioning and running in •UK-registered on a V5C and complete with VOC dating certificate ‘Cadwell Special’ race bike tribute. Registration: SXS 159 Frame No: D1120 Engine No: C808 Estimate: £15,000 - £20,000 Specialist: Mark Bryan Telephone No: 07958 107974 Lot 556 1924 Coventry Eagle Flying-8 981cc •Known for producing bicycles in the Victorian era then progressed to motorcycles along with numerous other manufacturers after WW1 •Using mainly JAP engines, they produced a range of mostly single-cylinder machines, but also built the infamous V-Twin Flying-8s • Launching a sporty 1,000cc V-Twin in 1923 capable of 80mph that was worthy rival to competitors Brough Superior • This example is an older restored machine fitted with a 1925 KTC ‘4 cam’ JAP engine that was rebuilt in 2009 by Ewan Cameron (receipt included) •Still with its original registration and frame number combination • Presented in ‘Brooklands’ trim with racing pipes and no lights • Fitted with what appears to be a Royal Enfield front wheel hub and Norton CS1 rear •Running recently but will require some recommissioning before road use •History file included containing previous owners’ details, photos of the bike pre-restoration and copy of a previous RF60 buff log book Legendary Coventry Eagle ‘Flying 8’.
