The NEC Classic Motor Show Sale 2023 Cars 164 Registration: RO02 PTX Chassis No.: SCCDA0823HC10330 Estimate: £60,000 - £80,000 Specialist: Harry Fox-Edwards Telephone No: 07398 872032 Lot 241 2002 Lotus Esprit V8 - Ex-Dany Bahar In its de-tuned, road-legal form, the Esprit V8 churned out 350bhp, and in full race trim, it roared with north of 500bhp. It could sprint from 0-60mph in a mere 4.3 seconds and boasted a top speed just above 175mph. Beyond its performance, the Esprit V8 was a visual masterpiece. It was a collaborative effort within the Lotus design team, building upon the foundation laid by Giorgetto Giugiaro’s original design. Standing at a mere 44.1” in height and retaining its iconic ‘pop-up’ headlights until production ceased in 2004, making it the last production car to feature this unique design element. While the Esprit V8 is already a rare gem, this example stands out as exceptional as it has the distinction of having been owned and restored by Lotus itself, to be used by the ultimately disgraced CEO, Dany Bahar. In 2010, just after taking control of Lotus, Bahar, known for his extravagant spending, commissioned a full restoration of a 2002 Esprit V8 during his tenure as Lotus CEO. He believed this car needed to be truly special, and thus no expense was spared in its restoration. The restoration process was nothing short of meticulous, with every detail addressed. The chassis was blasted and powder-coated, and any parts that were still available new from Lotus were replaced, regardless of their condition. The restoration included a brand-new crate engine, a fully reconditioned gearbox, and a host of ‘Final Edition’ options from the 2003 models to enhance its performance. Some of the upgrades include a later ‘High Boost’ Engine Control Module from an Esprit Sport 350, a twin-centre exit exhaust, uprated AP Racing front callipers and Brembos at the back, with Anthracite OZ Nova wheels shod in Dunlop SP Sport tyres. Cosmetically, the car received an oversized Final Edition spoiler, ‘Afterburner’ taillights, and a beautifully retrimmed interior in dark grey SuedeTex and black leather. It was impeccably painted in Pearlescent White, showcasing Bahar’s uncompromising standards. In the summer of 2023 Lotus subsequently requested and borrowed this meticulously restored Esprit to showcase to high-profile visitors, including Geely Vice President and Lotus CEO, Mr. Feng Qingfeng, and other senior executives from Geely and Lotus. Since Bahar’s ownership, this Esprit V8 has been cherished by its two private owners. It comes with extensive maintenance and servicing records, with over £32,000 in invoices from the current owner, primarily from Stratton Motor Company. The car has covered a mere 5,500 miles since the Lotus restoration and boasts a full-service history. It recently underwent an A-Service in August 2023, including the replacement of timing belts/tensioners and rear suspension components. It will be offered for sale with a fresh MOT for further peace of mind. This Esprit V8 is undoubtedly one of the best examples ever presented, combining stunning visual appeal, impeccable mechanical condition, and comprehensive documentation from day one. It offers a unique opportunity to acquire what is arguably the finest Lotus Esprit V8 in existence. With a compelling history and its first appearance on the open market, this supercar is a testament to the pursuit of automotive perfection. Possibly the most high-profile modern Lotus in existence, subject to a £100,000 plus restoration and remaining in superb condition. More Details Lot 241 Bid On Lot 241
