During this time, Walkinshaw was producing body and suspension kits for the XJ-S at his Jaguar Sport company as significant improvements over the standard XJ-S, leading to the factory authorising an official model incorporating Walkinshaw’s upgrades: the XJR-S. Owned 50:50 by Jaguar and TWR, Jaguar Sport (not to be confused with Jaguar-Sport) released a special version of the XJR-s in 1988, which featured the 5.3-litre V12 engine, a unique body kit, alloy wheels and suspension and handling improvements. Jaguar Sport would produce 100 of these new XJR-s cars as the ‘Celebration Le Mans’ models to commemorate Jaguar’s win at the Le Mans 24-Hour race in 1988. The 100 Celebration models would be sold exclusively in the UK, while an extra 226 XJR-s models would be produced up to 1989 with the 5.3-litre engine. (Note that Jaguar Sport used a small letter ‘s’ after the XJR letters to differentiate their cars from the factory products) This particular example of the XJR-s was supplied new on 10th January 1989 by Stratstone Jaguar of Cardiff who were the designated Jaguar Sport dealers in that area at the time, and was bought buy a Mr J Slater who had the registration mark 581 MD allocated to the car. Presented in the launch colour of Signal Red with Magnolia leather, the car is supplied with its original dealer book pack containing the usual manuals and the service book displaying no less than 11 stamps, with the most recent supporting the indicated mileage of 37,586 miles. Within the file are a number of invoices for parts/work carried out confirming the level of care and maintenance this lovely Jaguar has received. It’s also supplied with its Heritage Trust Certificate and an original sales brochure. A few years ago, the decision was taken to treat the car to a professional repaint, the wheels were professionally refurbished with new tyres fitted, the rear braking system was completely gone though with no expense spared and the interior was also treated to a professional clean showing off the trim to its very best again. We understand that it’s only been used occasionally since this work was completed. The XJ benefits from a few notable upgrades including 2.25” exhaust tips, a quad- headlight conversion similar to the Le Mans-edition,16” Jaguar Sport alloys (originals with the car) and a Jagua rSport Momo steering wheel, again the original does come with the car. The car will come to sale with a fresh MOT for peace of mind for any potential buyer. If you are looking for one of the very best examples of these appreciating bespoke GTs, then this superbly presented and sensibly guided XJR-s will not disappoint. Less than 38,000 miles and superbly presented, this is an impressive example of Jaguar Sport ’s bespoke 5.3-litre Grand Tourer. More Details Lot 222 Bid On Lot 222
