Refinements incorporated in this less spartan version included wind-down windows, an upholstered rear seat, column-mounted switch-gear stalks and hubcaps. Introduced in 1960, the succeeding 500D used the 499.5cc engine of the 500 Sport in de- tuned form whilst, in 1965, that was superseded by the 500F. Maximum power increased to 22bhp and the top speed to within a whisker of 60mph. An immense success for FIAT, almost 3,000,000 of these adorable little cars had been sold when production ceased in 1975. However, the 500D known for its rear hinged ‘suicide doors’ has become the most sought after when combined with the full length sunroof known as the ‘Transformable’ and a restored UK-supplied example is therefore the ‘holy grail’ for any fan of the Italian Mini! We therefore come nicely to this fabulously presented example which was registered in the UK on 1st August 1964 to the first of just three former keepers. Beautifully restored, this charming car has recently been subject to a full repaint in the highly desirable colour of Azzurro Aquamarine with a full professional retrim by the renowned company, Unrivalled Coachtrimming of Basingstoke, below a brand new hood. The recent engine-out service is complemented by a new clutch with new braking components all round and four new tyres. New brightwork has been fitted with the original aluminium professionally polished where possible. With a current odometer reading of a shade under 36,000 miles, at the time of cataloguing, this car is presented to auction with a detailed history file that includes extensive invoices for the work done and represents a rare opportunity to enjoy one of the rarest surviving examples of a UK-supplied ‘suicide door’ full sunroof 500D in classic Italian colours. A very rare surviving UK-supplied ‘suicide door’ cabriolet that has been fully restored and just three former keepers from new. More Details Lot 211 Bid On Lot 211
