The Iconic Sale at Race Retro 20th-22nd February 2026

108 The Iconic Sale at Race Retro 2026 Cars Introduced in 1962, the Anglia Super represented a decisive step up the model ladder. Beneath its familiar reverse-rake screen lay Ford’s enlarged 1,198cc engine, allied to the all-synchromesh four-speed gearbox borrowed from the Cortina. Added chrome brightwork, a more refined cabin and a heater fitted as standard gave the Super genuine showroom appeal. Fit a pair of auxiliary lamps and the Anglia became a surprisingly effective rally tool. Campaigned on the Monte Carlo Rally between 1960 and 1965, the Anglia consistently punched well above its weight, earning a reputation out of all proportion to its size. Offered here is a competition-prepared (Appendix ‘K’), 1,200cc, pre-crossflow 1968 Ford Anglia Super that’s believed to have been raced for most of its life. In 2007, the car was purchased by the Maskell family - Glen Maskell had enjoyed considerable success in a Superspeed Anglia in period - and was prepared by them for circuit racing, going about it as they used to, fitting a larger capacity engine, short-shift gearbox and finishing the car in Superspeed Red. The car’s specification includes; 1,200cc pre-crossflow engine mated to a 4-speed ‘Rocket’ gearbox, English rear axle with LSD, lightweight windows all around, heated front screen, period correct modifications to suspension, front discs and competition brake pads and a bespoke full length exhaust. In their ownership for seven years, and competing in events like the Historic Masters, and the Spa 6 Hours driven by Andy Maskell, in 2014 the Anglia was subject to a recommissioning that included fitting a close-ratio gearbox, Weber carburation and was fully prepared to the appropriate regulations allowing it to compete in CTCRC and the HRDC TC63 series. It was subsequently purchased by our vendor from our Sale at Race Retro in 2020 and we understand that during his ownership work done included; • Engine re-built • Gearbox repaired and re-built • Front brake discs and pads replaced • All safety equipment in date • Four Yokohama A408 tyres • Two Weber carburettors (40’s) (new) • Wiring loom repaired/replaced • New exhaust system and manifold • New battery • New starter motor. • New competition clutch Since the Anglia’s rebuild, it has been lightly used with one track day and one race weekend. Our vendor acknowledges that whilst the car is mechanically OK, the paintwork and bodywork could do with some attention. It’s supplied with a small amount of the previous owners’ paperwork and some spec sheets. This venerable little ‘Anglebox’ was treated to an engine oil and filter change very recently so it’s now ready for a spanner check and a pre-season morning session at Mallory or Brands or wherever. Previously campaigned by the Maskell family, well known for their success in Superspeed Anglias, and recently subject to a mechanical overhaul. This well presented ‘Anglebox’ racer represents an excellent opportunity to acquire a true ‘punch above it’s weight’ racecar.
