It’s had just one registered keeper from new, a description rarely applied to a 1970s performance Ford and one that sets this car apart from almost any other example currently known. Retaining many of its original features, this Mexico exudes authenticity throughout. The history file includes four different versions of the V5C registration document, early Rustshield guarantee paperwork from Bristol Street Motors, Birmingham, and a selection of old MOTs. At a later stage in its life, the car was repainted and subject to engine and mechanical work, with supporting invoices and photograph showing the engine’s removal and rebuild. Further provenance is provided by a letter from the AVO Owners’ Club, written by Mark Heath and dated 20th June 2013, which can be supplied to interested parties. In it, he confirms that the car possesses its original heavy-duty Type 49 Mexico bodyshell, retains its original 1600 GT engine, and concludes that the vehicle is ‘a credit to its owner’. Opportunities to acquire a genuine Mk1 Mexico with such exceptional provenance and a single registered keeper status are vanishingly rare.
