The Iconic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2024
44 The Iconic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2024 Cars One of the finest examples we have seen, the term ‘time warp’ is rightly attributed when describing this car. Purchased new through Datsun Broadwater Limited on 1st August 1976 by its one and only keeper, a Mr M Willis of Burgess Hill, West Sussex, this wonderfully original right-hand drive, UK-supplied Datsun 260Z is offered to the market for the first time since new! Following the owner’s purchase the Datsun was driven back to Sussex where it was to reside. Dry stored in a small private Collection, the Datsun was enjoyed as intended until c.1990 where it was used less regularly and in 2022 the decision was made to recommission the 260Z ready for further road use. Undertaken by Datsun specialists, Fourways Engineering, Kent, the comprehensive recommissioning included renewal of the brakes, a major service, rebuild carburettors, remove and machine the cylinder head, replace inlet valves and valve guides, replace various bushes and bearings and prepare for an MOT, the final cost totalling £10,381.35. Since then, the Datsun has been treated to further maintenance by Fourways including a service in 2022 at a cost of £368, and further work in January 2024 costing £532. Offered in its original colour combination of silver paintwork over a black interior, the Datsun remains extremely original having covered a mere 37,231 miles from new. The paintwork is generally very good with a few minor blemishes and the interior and engine bay are in very good order. The underside is also in very good condition having received a full ‘Zeibart’ from new, as the original sales invoice confirms. The history file that accompanies the car includes the original warranty and service booklet, the original owners manual, original Datsun 260Z sales brochures and the original sales invoice from Datsun Broadwater Limited. Also included is the original Datsun toolkit which appears to be unused. Additionally, the history file contains a sizeable MOT record and the most recent MOT certificate is valid until 10th October 2025. Interested parties should note that the registration document had previously been changed into the previous keeper’s partner’s name and back on two occasions which is documented on the HPI report, however we can confirm that this was a one owner example from the exhaustive paperwork and having been kept in the same garage from new. A lovely car and a testament to Mr. Willis. Offered from the Property of a Gentleman Collection, an original example with just one previous keeper from new, a superbly curated history file and just 37,254 miles.
