264 The Iconic Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show 2024 Motorcycles •With a top speed of over 100mph, the Vincent V-twin was the fastest vehicle on the road in period •1949 was the changeover year from HRD to Vincent and the phasing out of Brampton girder forks • This, Series B Rapide, is presented is very good overall condition and in good running order •According to the Vincent HRD factory records, the bike was dispatched on 6th December to Cimic, Buenos Aires in Argentina •40 years later it was repatriated via Germany back to the UK in 1990 •No rear frame number visible and fitted with a 1949 Series B Rapide engine •Restored at the time but never used and then passed between three Vincent enthusiast owners before being purchased by our vendor in 2019 •Subject then to a comprehensive restoration between 2019 and 2022 by the VOC Spares Co Ltd and marque-specialist Ben Kingham • Fitted with period-correct 5” speedo and Brampton forks •Our vendor has enjoyed over 4,000 miles riding since the restoration •Complete with very comprehensive history file containing VOC Dating Certificate, copy works order form, numerous receipts and restoration photos •UK-registered on a current V5C VOC Spares Co Ltd restored ‘Series B’ Rapide. Estimate: £25,000 - £30,000 Registration: MXS 164 Frame No: R3227 Engine No: F10AB/1/1570 Specialist: Mark Bryan Telephone No: 07958 107974 Lot 524 1948 Vincent HRD ‘Series B’ Rapide 998cc •OEC (Osbourne Engineering Company) was founded in 1915 and based in Gosport in Hampshire • Four examples were produced for the Road Research Laboratory and used to test friction surfaces on British roads • This example was registered new in 1938 as EUC 23 and still retains that number •Originally fitted with a sidecar with a ‘skidding wheel’ designed to evaluate road surfaces •Retired from the Ministry of Transport in the 1960s and acquired by the Connelly brothers as part of their Collection • The original engine was removed and fitted into a Brough Superior SS100 • The bike then was bought by Mr David Blanchard who kept it for another 45 years until his passing in 2011 • The last ten years have seen the bike undergo a preservation rebuild including the fitting of a correct JTO 1,000cc V-Twin JAP engine •Rebuilt to resemble an earlier style 1931 OEC ‘Flying Squad’ model •Complete with a comprehensive history file containing numerous receipts, correspondence, photos, articles, old RF60 logbook and old V5s • Presented in highly original finish and in running order •UK-registered on a current V5C JAP OHV 1,000cc V-Twin powered OEC.
