222 Legends in Time Retirement Sale 2024 Automobilia LEGENDS IN TIME RETIREMENT SALE Regarding the auction Peter says, ‘I have treasured many of the items offered in the auction and I now feel it is time for someone else to become their custodian and enjoy them as I have done over many years’. Peter is now beginning his retirement after 40 years at the helm of Legends in Time. He says ‘Being involved with all of the drivers has been an incredible journey as F1 has always been my passion since going racing with my father in the 1950’s. My boyhood dreams came true, and I am both blessed and truly grateful to have had this journey’. Formula 1and motorsport guru Peter Ratcliffe first established Legends in Time in 1988. It all started with a chance meeting with legendary motorsport artist Alan Stammers. Peter immediately recognised Alan’s talent and so he decided to create a challenge to sign up all of the world’s greatest drivers with Alan’s incredibly detailed images. During that journey Peter also began collecting driver’s helmets, Formula 1cars and all items connected with Formula 1. Peter organised his very first auction for charity in London in 1992. In 1996 Peter’s close friend, Stirling Moss, opened the first of four Legends in Time galleries. Stirling was Peter’s boyhood hero ever since he first met him at Goodwood in 1961. Little did he know then, that many years later Stirling would become a very close friend with whom he holidayed on many occasions in Florida and Mallorca. During the last three years of Stirling’s life, Peter travelled to Stirling’s Mayfair home every nine days to shave Stirling and spend time with him. Peter says,’It was all I could do to help him as I cared for him so much’. In later years, Peter developed his watch company creating fine quality Swiss watches to commemorate Stirling’s greatest victories. Peter is the first person ever to create a hand-signed watch. Peter has worked with all the greats including Fangio, Senna, Schumacher, Jackie Stewart, Nigel Mansell, Brabham, Lauda, Ickx, Piquet and many others.
