319 + buyer’s premium of 12.5% plus VAT (15% incl VAT) Lot 775 1981 Ford Escort RS2000 •Developed jointly by Ford of Britain and Ford of Germany, the Mk2 was a more refined evolution of the iconic Escort platform, powered by a 2-litre SOHC Pinto inline-four, driving the rear wheels through a longitudinal layout •Factory-fitted with a twin-venturi Weber 32/36 DGAV carburettor, with optional dual Weber 40DCNF or IDF ‘Group 1’ setup, suspension comprised MacPherson struts with anti-roll bar at the front and leaf springs with telescopic dampers at the rear •Distinctive ‘droop snoot’ nose with quad headlamps gave the RS2000 its unmistakable front-end profile, quoted performance of 0–60mph in 8.9 seconds and a top speed of 110mph - impressive for its era •Subject to a full bare-metal restoration in 2010 by a respected classic specialist, finished in correct Diamond White.
