302 The Classic Sale at Silverstone Festival 2025 Cars Lot 741 1997 Jaguar XK8 Convertible - Remarkable Restoration •After 24 years of enjoyable ownership and almost 100,000 miles, our vendor had formed an extremely strong bond with his beloved XK8, when corrosion and general wear dictated the car to be beyond repair •The decision was taken to set about a total rebuild that included sourcing a brand new/old stock XK8 convertible bodyshell •The NOS bodyshell was expertly finished in British Racing Green along with bumpers and trim sections before careful reassembly by highly skilled technicians. •The XK also benefited from improved sound proofing and a discreet stereo upgrade with Bluetooth connectivity, bespoke rear speaker boxes, upgraded speakers, amplifier and a new head unit installed by an audio specialist at over £5,000 •We understand the investment totalled around £140,000 and as you can imagine, the invoice file is substantial •The work was completed in early 2023 and since then the car has covered just over 6,500 miles (speedo zeroed after restoration) and is therefore nicely shaken down •This is an unrepeatable opportunity to take ownership of an XK8 truly lavished with time, money and expert attention One man’s dream, a no expense spared restoration of his cherished XK8, with nearly £140,000 invested to return the car to ‘as-new’. It’s believed to have been with another family from new until 1988 but most of the original documentation has been lost •The vehicle is now registered under 499 XVR and is supplied with a British Motor Museum Certificate and its original ‘buff’ logbook •After years of farm-use by the current family, the Landy was stored in a barn where it remained untouched until 2023 at which point it was inherited by his daughter, the current owner •It has recently undergone some light recommissioning which included flushing the fuel lines, fitting new brakes all around and a full service •Never painted by our vendors and it seems unlikely to have been painted by its first family owners, so we have to conclude it remains in its original Bronze Green paint, with a canvas tilt and green vinyl seating •The odometer indicates 40,980 miles which again seems likely to be genuine •Enjoyed locally in recent months, this charming 86” Series I is now ready for its next chapter, whether that be a full restoration or to be enjoyed as is Venerable Series I 86” ‘Rag-Top’ from long term family ownership.
