The Iconic & Classic Sales at Silverstone Festival 22nd-24th August 2025

139 + buyer’s premium of 12.5% plus VAT (15% incl VAT) By 1989, the Porsche 911 930 Turbo had evolved into one of the most formidable performance cars of the 1980s, earning a cult following through a blend of performance, reputation and iconic looks. Originally launched in 1975 as a homologation special, the 930 underwent steady development, gaining displacement, refinement and by its final model year, a 5-speed G50 gearbox that significantly enhanced the driving experience. These final year 1989 cars are regarded as the ultimate iteration of the original 911 Turbo before the limited run LE models, offering turbocharged performance with a more usable, driver-friendly gearbox, remaining one of the most desirable 911s today. Finished in the seldom seen and appropriately assertive Slate Grey Metallic (paint code Q909) over a matching Slate Grey leather interior, this UK-supplied, right-hand drive C16 example was built on 8th February 1989 and registered new on 3rd March by main agent Merlin Cambria Ltd. Crucially, it is a matching numbers car, with the original engine and gearbox confirmed by an accompanying Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, which also verifies a highly desirable factory specification. The car was ordered new with a comprehensive list of factory options - recoil bumpers, heated seats, limited-slip differential, Blaupunkt Toronto radio cassette, rear seat belts, sports seats with electric height adjustment, amplifier system top- tinted windscreen, sunroof and a black velour-trimmed luggage compartment. All of these remain in place today, with the sole exception of the original radio, which is included with the car but has been replaced with a modern unit for practicality. Cosmetically and mechanically, the car presents in exceptional condition. More than just visually striking, this example is underpinned by a meticulous maintenance history backed by an extensive file documenting over £110,000 in expenditure, most of which between 2015 and 2022. The history includes MOT Certificates, substantial maintenance invoices and the original leather book pack with handbooks and a service book stamped up to 71,000 miles, excellent indicators of consistent and diligent care from new. Notably, in 2018 and 2019, the car underwent a full engine rebuild at Ninemeister totalling £19,420. This followed a £9,128 invoice in 2018 for mechanical diagnostics relating to an oil leak and a further £12,986 spent in 2017 on comprehensive servicing, all setting the tone for a remarkable period of investment. A major Porsche service was completed in 2021 at a cost of £5,633, followed in 2022 by a cosmetic refresh carried out by GTR Motorsport. This work, totalling £6,816 over 77 hours, included the removal of minor corrosion to the inner front wings and a factory-correct respray of the front wings, door, side sills, sill trims, wheel nuts and both bumpers. The result is a car that now presents with near concours-level paintwork and detailing. Supporting its presentation credentials, the car was displayed at Salon Privé in 2016, reportedly winning its class in Class C. The interior condition matches the exterior. The factory-optioned sports seats retain their electric height adjustment, cabin plastics remain clean and free from fading and tasteful enhancements have been discreetly integrated. In 2020, upgraded speakers and a subwoofer were fitted at a cost of £863, improving audio quality without compromising originality. The original Blaupunkt unit is included, allowing a return to full factory presentation if desired. The 930 Turbo’s reputation for thrilling performance is well earned. In period, it could still humble supercars well into the 1990s. Earlier 4-speed versions, while exhilarating, could be unforgiving in inexperienced hands. The final-year G50 cars brought improved drivability, more responsive power delivery and greater usability. As such, these 1989 models are widely considered the holy grail of the 930 lineage - all the drama of the Turbo experience with the most refined driving dynamics of the era. Beautifully specified from new, mechanically exceptional, visually stunning and accompanied by an unrivalled history file, this is an outstanding example of the final-year 930 Turbo. As a UK-delivered, matching numbers G50 car with known history, concours pedigree and tasteful upgrades. Possibly the ultimate iteration of Porsches ‘Widowmaker’. Slate Grey, C16, G50 example with bills on file totalling over £110,000 with Salon Privé provenance.
