THE CLASSIC SALE 21st & 22nd March 2026

54 The Classic Sale at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show 2026 iconicauctioneers.com • This delightful Riley Monaco remained in the same family for nearly 66 years and used in the Antiques Road Trip in July 2023 •Originally sold in March 1933 to a Mr. Gilbert, it soon passed to Stockbroker Norman Holt who used the Monaco until 1974 before handing it over to his son who used it until 2000 •Whilst in new ownership it was subject to a full overall and still presents in magnificent condition today. Mechanically on the button it drove faultlessly to our photo session with the highly sought after ‘Riley Ski Lady’ radiator mascot • The history file is both fascinating and comprehensive covering the sale by Brooklands racer and garage owner, Jack Fairman, and further driving anecdotes from the Holt family. The history and its marriage to the Riley are remarkable survivors. Naturally, the original instruction book of the 1933 Model Riley Nine and a period copy of The Book of the Riley Nine are included. Still on its original registration number and MOT’d until September 2026 •Surprising nimble, this lovely Monaco epitomises driving in the thirties and in this condition could offer hours of carefree motoring this summer Absolutely delightful Riley Monaco with a fascinating history and recent TV celebrity. Seller Rating: 81 / 135 ««« Registration: LJ 7170 Chassis No.: 6020527 Estimate: £12,000 - £15,000 Specialist: Lionel Abbott Telephone No: 07831 574381 Lot 185 1933 Riley Nine (9HP) Monaco Plus Ultra • Introduced in September 1953, the MG TF was based on the same chassis and mechanical components as the TD Mark II. The centre section of the body shell remained virtually the same as that of the TD but the most significant change was to adopt a sloping radiator grille that, for the first time, concealed a separate radiator • Initially the car was launched with the faithful 1,250cc XPAG engine that made its debut in the TB Midget back in 1939 • This lovely example dates from 1954 and has been enjoyed by members of our vendor’s family for over 40 years, however, we do not have much in the way of history • It appears to be essentially original, although has been well retrimmed in the past, and has enjoyed a couple of coats of Old English White (Ivory was the factory colour) •Our vendor believes that the indicated mileage of 25,441 could well be correct and confirmed that whilst in the family’s ownership for four decades it has been lovingly looked after and lightly used • It’s supplied with an original Operation Manual, V5C, current MOT and further documentation A beautifully presented example of the final incarnation of MG’s venerable T-Series from long-term family ownership.
