The Spider bodies were designed and built by Pininfarina in Turin and the cars were assembled by Alfa Romeo in Milan. The Veloce version used twin Weber carburettors and hotter camshafts than the Normale to produce around 129bhp. This exceptionally rare 101 Spider Veloce was originally dispatched to Germany, equipped with the highly coveted 1,600 engine from the factory. Transitioned into a racing machine in the 1990s, it embarked on a successful and meticulously documented competitive journey, culminating in a recent comprehensive professional rebuild, leaving no nut or bolt untouched. In the skilled hands of Dr. R Schimmer of Dusseldorf, the Alfa underwent its transformation into a race car, gracing tracks across Europe including Spa, Zolder, Zandvoort, Brno, Hockenheim and the formidable Nordschleife, where it secured an impressive ninth place overall among 185 contenders in the Eifelklassik. Notably, it triumphed at Monza in the 2010 Coppa Intereuropa, starting from the very back of the grid. Acquired by its current custodian in 2021, it underwent a comprehensive overhaul, with attention to the rear axle, carburettors, gearbox and wiring.
