THE RACE RETRO COLLECTORS’ & COMPETITION CAR SALE 23rd & 24th February 2024

Race Retro Competition Car Sale 2024 Cars 124 Registration: UNREGISTERED Chassis No.: P2200 Estimate: £25,000 - £30,000 Specialist: Joseph Watts Telephone No: 07779 082707 Lot 946 1952 Morgan Plus 4 One of reputedly just 348 Plus 4 ‘Flat Rad’ two-seaters built, these charming 1950s Morgans are widely considered as the best all-round classic Morgan from the Malvern based firm. A true English roadster that’s utterly timeless. It was still clearly a 1930s sports car, but throughout the years it received updates and upgrades as the cars that donated their engines and gearboxes evolved. A move to hydraulically assisted brakes was a welcome one, as was the lightly restyled front end. During its 19-year run, it went through a 2.1-litre Standard Vanguard engine before moving to a Triumph TR2 engine. Front disc brakes were finally fitted as standard in 1961, which was a good thing as the final TR4 engined models were genuine 100mph cars. The car presented here is a 1952 Morgan Plus 4 and was largely restored in Australia at considerable expense (in 2011) under the direction of the then president of the Morgan Owner’s Club in Sydney. Well-versed in the restoration of Morgans having undertaken many previous projects, this car was completed to a high standard and little-used since. Shipped to the UK from Perth in 2014 on the promise of being exchanged for a long-admired Morgan Plus 8, this deal sadly never materialised, however, what an opportunity this presents for a buyer here today. UK taxes were paid in 2014 (though a V5C log book has not been applied for) meaning the car can move freely throughout the EU, and indeed the rest of the world, upon a successful sale. On arrival in the UK, and under instruction from the owner, Williams Morgan of Bristol were appointed to ensure that this Hawthorne Green and Black leather- trimmed Morgan met the correct standards of the discerning European audience and stringent UK road tests. Naturally, one or two minor shortages were identified and a tube in the bell housing was replaced meaning the car was, in 2014, confidently offered in all-round sound and roadworthy condition. A truly charming and eminently usable Morgan this car was originally fitted with the Vanguard engine, but this was replaced by the next in succession, the TR2 unit, with twin SU carburettors as this is a far superior powerplant and more capable of regular use. Morgan sports cars are all-too-often muttered under one’s breath. Not so here. We’re proud to offer this car for sale and are confident that the new owner will be delighted with their purchase, particularly if they’re able to secure it within today’s reasonable guide price. The car has formed part of a small private collection since 2014, being driven only occasionally on a private estate, so is running & driving, but may require some maintenance to make it 100% roadworthy and, as in 2014, it’s still not UK-registered. TR2-engined, 1952 ‘Flat Rad’, sympathetically restored in Australia in 2014 but not yet UK-Registered. More Details Lot 946 Bid On Lot 946
